The History of The School

  •

Although the foundation stone was laid in November 1908, our beginnings really go back to 9 February 1907 when this school was officially opened with 61 children and Miss S.E. Stanley as the first Principal. With increasing numbers, the school soon had to move to larger premises. On 3 May 1909, the school, by then 147 strong, moved to new premises in Cavendish Road, Yeoville. In 1914, saw the roll at 450, and the outbreak of World War I of which many male teachers were called up by the Union. In March 1918, saw the removal of the junior classes (Grade 1 to Standard 2) to the new Observatory School. With the opening of the new Observatory Junior High in 1938, Yeoville Intermediate became Yeoville Boys’ School catering for boys from Grade 1 to Standard 5 (Grade 7)
